As I say in this video, one of my primary concerns about hiking in Southern Ontario is where to spend the night. This is farm country, and it is by no means crowded, but places where you can slip out of sight and rest your hooves for the night are scarce. In the video, I talk about whether I’ve made a mistake by walking past a potentially good campsite. I discuss the road-walking conditions so far, and the hazards of tramping through the tall grass. Finally, I show you the camping spot where I eventually fetched up.

How are you feeding yourself? Are you eating at reststops or are you cooking?

So far I am counting on finding a restaurant or convenience store every few miles. Sometimes they’re a bit further afield. Today I walked 15 miles before I could buy so much as a candy bar. Still, I should be okay without my cooking gear until I get west of the Mississippi.

Nah. I’m too old to he brave. Remind me to tell you some time about how I got past the troll guarding the bridge across Narragansett Bay …
